Mariefred

This thusday I went with Amaia to Mariefred. It is far away from where I live, because is in another zone, so we have to go to Stockholm and them buy the tickets of a train which is really quick to go there, it is about two hours and twenty minutes. It is in Strängnäs, in the province of Södermanland. It is a small town, with very few people living there. It have narrow streets, colourful, low wooden houses and boatmen’s cottage. The name of Marefred means something like " the peace of Marie" .
The houses here, are the typical swedish houses, red or yellow and white in the borders. I like this type of houses very much.
We walked around the city to see it, and apart of the houses, there are some shops, but only a few. We went to see the church, but we couldn't come in because it was closed. It's not too big and white and to go there you have to climb some stairs.
And finally we went to visit the Castle, this is the thing I liked the most of Mariefred. The name of the castle is Gripsholm Castle. It was built in 1537 and commissioned by Swedish king Gustav Vasa. It sits on the banks of the Lake Mälaren and dominates the skyline around the small town of Mariefred that lies on the other side of the lake.
